Rayne A resurrected, Netts A weakened: Braintree League 2026/26 title race set to change hands

The new Braintree Table Tennis League season has not started, but the landscape has already changed. Rayne A, the 2026 title-winning side, return almost intact, while Netts A, champions in three of the last four seasons, face a weakened campaign as two key players reduce their appearances. According to Table Tennis England, division one has 10 teams, division two 12 and division three 11. Two clubs declined promotion, leaving league organisers with a pragmatic solution. The main title race is expected to be between Rayne A and Netts A. Rayne A have signed Nigel Peters from Kent and welcomed back Maria Boulton, Adam Buxton and Paul Lucas, but injury concerns remain. Netts A will miss the 62 points contributed by Paul Davison and James Hicks out of 141 total, though they have promoted 20-year-old Charles Calisin, who won 35 of 42 sets in division two. Sudbury Nomads, 19 points behind last season, replaced Richard Fifield with Michael Emmerson. Liberal A could challenge if Peter Hayden returns from a long knee problem. With two teams refusing promotion and the bottom team likely to avoid relegation, the league’s competitive edge is at risk. The season will be decided by fitness, availability and how quickly young players adapt, not by names on paper.
